Bricksie’s June Recap!

Hey everybody!

Can you believe how quick the last month flew by? So much to recap before we head into July. Let’s get started!

Kids With Cancer Fundraiser News

For starters, we raised over $8000 in our May Charity Drive benefitting the Kids With Cancer Society! This is incredible and I cannot thank you all enough! Whether you newly subscribed, donated yourself or simply helped get the word out, you all helped make this a huge success!

First Looks with Bricksie

We’ve also taken a peek at some newly announced and upcoming LEGO sets from Star Wars, Adidas, Jurassic World, and more – make sure you have your notifications turned on and never miss a first look!

Bricksie in the Field

Mr. and Mrs. Bricksie gotta get out of the LEGO room every once in a while!

Some awesome LEGO shopping vlogs this month, from hitting up the LEGO Store and local shops, to another epic Brick Bin outing!

Still, that’s small potatoes compared to our LEGO road trip to Calgary and Banff! We hit up all the tourist faves, got some major inspiration for the city at the Calgary Zoo, saw some epic MOCs, visited an all-year Christmas store and more. Can’t wait for the next big outing!

We also got a tour of the INCREDIBLE Jurassic World LEGO display by Brickman all the way down in Australia! We can’t thank them enough for the Zoom tour, check out their website for more amazing creations!

Set Reviews & City News

So many new sets, collection revamps and more on the go in the LEGO room too!

We built and placed some amazing new 2021 sets, like the Daily Bugle, Harry Potter & Hermione Buildable Figures, the latest and greatest in the Brickheadz series, Fawkes the phoenix, the Boeing Dreamliner, and the classic ’66 Batcave! The new June 2021 Speed Champions are no slouches themselves.

We also built and reviewed the all-new LEGO Typewriter, an incredible LEGO Ideas release with some voiceover from the creator of the set himself!

In other LEGO room news, the minifigs have made their way back to the streets of Brickmonton after our big revamp! We’ve also totally reorganized the shelving, hung some new art pieces, upgraded the Brickheadz to a brick-built display solution, and made some big upgrades to the LEGO underworld, with more than a few mishaps along the way.

Last Random Bitz

Such a huge month! We also filmed a few new hacks and how-tos, reported on some sustainability and Ninjago news from the Lego Group, and worked on the railroad all the live-long day.

Don’t forget to check out the all-new Bricksie easter egg series – LEGO Hippo Spotting!

Bye for now!

Brick Bin Trip Recap PLUS City Update

Hey everybody!

Been a great couple weeks on the channel. So far our May charity drive has raised over $7200 for Kids With Cancer! Huge thanks to all new subscribers and everyone helping to get the word out. There’s a little over a week left, so let’s see what we can do in the home stretch!

Yesterday I took another road trip down to the Brick Bin for the first real in-person fan meet and greet. They’ve been in the works for some time and it’s been tricky to work out the details with COVID, but I’m glad it came together. We did a raffle and live streamed building the Boeing 787 Dreamliner set (a fantastic fan gift). Can’t wait to make it down there again! In the meantime, look forward to checking out the Cloud City Duel set I snagged there.

One more major development to note: the LEGO City has skyscrapers again! They had been removed to give the modular buildings more room to breathe, but with the Daily Bugle set on the way, they’ve been reintegrated. Now we’re just waiting for the Bugle to arrive!

So much on the go this month, including new Technic set reviews, Josee MOCs in progress, fan mail unboxings, shopping hauls and more!

PLUS – SMG is back with more on Beyond Bricksie – make sure you’re subbed to the second channel and never miss a minute!

Bye for now!

Catching up with Bricksie!

Hey everybody!

Been a bit since we had a new blog update! Lots has been going on, and lots of exciting news to come!

For starters, thank you to all of my new subscribers who just joined the channel during our MAY THE SUBS BE WITH YOU fundraiser! If you haven’t heard, for every subscriber the channel gains during the month of May we’re donating $0.15 PLUS one of our members is matching it, making it a total of $0.30 per subscriber! All the proceeds are going to the Kids With Cancer Society, a great cause that we’re proud to support!

Keep your eye on our daily fundraising totals in the channel header!

Plenty of updates to share since the last post went up, both personal and for the channel itself. Back in April I got a LEGO Darth Vader tattoo! It’s healed up nice and looks kickass! Check out Tony Skleptic on IG for more of his work.

I don’t see the resemblance…

In case you missed it, we broke 100,000 SUBSCRIBERS! Such an incredible milestone, and I am grateful to everyone who continues to watch the videos and contribute to this amazing community. Since then, YouTube has verified the channel metrics and sent out a Silver Play Button to recognize the occasion. The plaque looks great in the LEGO room, and I can’t wait to scooch it over for a Gold Button!

In continued 100k coverage, we made the news again! Tim the Social Media Guy (SMG for short) got the word out again and we were featured on Global and CBC! With CTV already in the bag, one of my subscribers called it a “Canadian News Hat Trick”…well said! I was especially fond of the Global coverage, the producers seemed especially interested in the work we were doing and it definitely shows in the coverage and production effects.

On a related note, Beyond Bricksie has expanded! We hadn’t done an upload in some time – simply too much to manage on the main channel. But SMG to the rescue! We’re planning on enlarging the scope of Beyond Bricksie content to include the full interests of Team Bricksie – including some more Josee recipes, Jordan blogs, and toy reviews and comedy skits from Tim the SMG and his friend, Harley of B93’s Harley in the Morning radio show! Exciting developments all the time.

Last week was also May the Fourth, which was a BLAST – thanks to some incredible vintage sets from fans we got to cover several new sets throughout the week as well as some retro pieces in a May the 4th vlog.

That’s just a taste of what has been on the go recently! So many new sets to look at and build, LEGO City updates on the go, massive shopping trips and more – don’t miss a thing on our main channel!

Bye for now!

March Recap!

Hey everybody!

March 2021 is in the books and it couldn’t have been busier. The channel hit a MAJOR milestone and we sure did some celebrating during the 100k livestream. The Bricksie community sent me some incredible gifts to unbox and there’s still more to come as we get everything placed around the city.

Who’d have imagined this way back in 2015?

As we approached 100k, we reached out to the local media to spread the word (more on that in the last blog). Having a camera crew in the LEGO room meant really working overtime to finish up some details for the city, and now that the minifigs are all placed, its looking really polished and full of life!

New Sets for March

New sets? Oh, we’ve got new sets for sure.

After running down the new sets at the LEGO Store on March 1, a lot of the month was consumed by 100k prep, detail work on the city, and some alt builds. Still, I was pumped to get the LEGO Ideas Winnie the Pooh set and, while not new in the strictest sense, the Super Star Destroyer fan gift has been blowing my mind! Keep an eye on the channel to see that sucker get completed!

Oooooowhee!

Other junk

Lots of other projects on the docket! We did rebuilds of the Disney Castle and the 123 Sesame Street set, making some new modulars that look great in the city.

We also did a lot of MOCs to really flesh out the city details! Check out the new traffic lights, waterfall, go-kart track and more.

I also did another episode of Ask Bricksie! I answered a few more of my most common asks, including giving some advice to those who want to start up their very own LEGO city.

Just a brief look back on some of the amazing things that came together this month. Can’t wait to see what April brings!

Bye for now!

Making Headlines! The Road to 100k!

Hey everybody!

WHAT A WEEK! The main channel is about to hit the 100,000 subscriber milestone (1200 to go as of writing this!) and with that in mind, my team reached out to the local media to share the news and thank the community for the support.

…little did I know.

Heh. Brick by LEGO brick. I dig it.

After booking an segment with CTV News, the attention snowballed and by the end of the week, I was hearing from the CBC, doing phone interviews with all the local radio stations and getting up bright and early for a live morning show broadcast! Huge thanks to everyone that shared news stories, messaged me congratulations, or started tuning into the channel for the first time.

Having a news crew in the basement really kicked things into third gear, resulting in a hugely productive week for the city! So much growth and improvements made, including getting the minifigures placed, having a friend swing by and start building a fence around the railroad tracks, and much more. Amazing what you can accomplish when you’re about to be broadcast to the world.

Lookin’ a lot more crowded than before!

With all the media buzz, I’m amazed anything else got done! We also built the Comic Con exclusive LEGO Star Wars Nebulon B Frigate & the Amelia Earhart Tribute set, placed Tannjam’s custom streetlights (tutorial here), rebuilt the 123 Sesame Street set for placement in the city, made a shopping trip or two and chilled on the second channel. Not a bad week!

Keep an eye on the channel this week as we do some more work on the city, make some custom additions to the Ninjago section, and get ready to celebrate ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND SUBSCRIBERS!

February Roundup

Hey everybody!

The shortest month of the year has come and gone, and boy was it packed with LEGO projects. Let’s recap!

New Sets

We built some pretty amazing new sets in live streams all throughout the month, many of which I still wouldn’t have in hand if I wasn’t a LEGO VIP member. I highly recommend signing up if you are on the fence.

On my channel, we film buying the latest LEGO release, live stream the build with my members, and then review the set, comparing it to other related releases or placing in the city as applicable. So whether you’re a gearhead or more of a LEGO Ideas fan, there’s always some content on the channel for you to check out.

This month, the hottest finds at the LEGO store were the Medieval Blacksmith set and the new Creator Porsche! Both amazing builds.

LEGO Room Updates

Huge progress was made on the LEGO room this month! In addition to completely revamping the LEGO shelves surrounding the city, Brickmonton’s rough final layout was finalized, allowing me to move on to street details, working on the theme park, and more. Feels good!

The LEGO Wall…Complete!

It’s been a long time coming, but the day finally came. At approximately 15,000 bricks, holding up 570 unique minifigures and occupying 35 square feet, the Bricksie wall is complete! So proud to wrap up this project and be able to place sigfigs from the community in their permanent home. If you want your own minifigure on display at Bricksie HQ, check out the Fan Mail tab on the site!

In other news…

Beyond Bricksie is still going strong, with February content featuring a LEGO road trip, upgrading the ol’ desktop to a new rig, and more.

We also rebuilt the Colosseum into the Boone Builds Castello Fortificato, wrapped the 100k subscriber bet with Brettski, took an updated look at my complete Star Wars UCS collection, and took an in-depth reflection on life as a full-time LEGO YouTuber since August of 2020.

A busy 28 days, that’s for sure. Can’t wait to see what March holds!

Bye for now!

BRICKSIE’s Top 5 Star Wars Sets!

Hey everybody!

I was just thinking, you know what’s awesome? Star Wars. You know what else is awesome! LEGO, obviously. So naturally, the pairing of the two has produced some of my favourite LEGO sets of all time. I would say easily about a third of the LEGO room is full of Star Wars stuff, and when you consider how much room the city occupies, that’s no small feat.

But what are my favourites? That’s a toughie. Most of these sets are among the top rated or most expensive in my collection, and for good reason! I’ve done my best to narrow it down to an all-time top 5. Let’s see if there are any surprises on here!

UCS Imperial Shuttle (10212)

This one is a no-brainer. As I mentioned in my FAQ blog post back in January, this set was one I was after for a long time and was given to me as a surprise gift from some of my members for hitting 50,000 subscribers. It means a lot to me, and it’s one hell of a nice display piece. If you find one at a good price, I absolutely recommend snagging it.

UCS Millennium Falcon (75192)

This sucker belongs on any half-decent LEGO Star Wars top 5 list. It made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs, for crying out loud!

What can be said about the Falcon that hasn’t been said already? It’s a beast of a build, with over 7,500 pieces. The detailing, the sheer size, the swappable radar dishes, the minifigure lineup…oh man. There’s a reason I have videos of buying it, unboxing it, building it, reviewing it, displaying it, and comparing it to other sets. If you can afford it (both in terms of money and shelf space), the Falcon is a must-have. Punch it, Chewie!

UCS Death Star II (10143)

Up and coming collector’s may have a hard time tracking this set down, as it came out way back in 2005 and is long retired! It took me a few years of searching, but I found someone willing to part with it and I’m glad I did. My buddy Kevin gave me a great deal, but it was basically the Dust Star at that point.

After cleaning it up and rebuilding the old girl, I can happily report that it doesn’t disappoint. The Death Star playset is fun for sure, but I prefer the display piece.

Word on the street is that we’re getting another Death Star for 2021!

2014 AT-AT (75054)

Another set that’s close to my heart as the first bit of LEGO merch I ever went out and bought. None of this would be here today if I hadn’t snagged this walker, so it makes the top five, edging out some very impressive UCS sets and other builds.

It holds up very well too, and I should know. I have NINE walkers now, but the ol’ girl beats out the competition every time.

More of an AT-ST fan? I got you covered:

Slave I (75060)

Last, but definitely not least. Boba Fett’s ride. It’s amazing. Loads of detail for both display and play features. The minifigs are stellar, and the ship itself is so beloved by the fandom for its cool factor and ominous profile.

Since Fett’s triumphant return in the Mandalorian and the announcement of his own show, I imagine this set will only get harder to find as time goes on. Yeah, there’s been new ones since, but its just not the same, is it?

Did I leave anything out? What would you have on your list? Let me know! I should make a new LEGO Star Wars video soon, but in the meantime, here was my whole collection as of April last year!

Till next time!

February Week 1 Recap!

Hey everybody!

It’s the shortest month of the year and the past week has been absolutely jam-packed! Here’s a quick recap of everything you might’ve missed this week, on both channels!

After taking a look through my backlog of sets to build, wouldn’t you know it, I went out and bought more!

This week, the LEGO Blacksmith set hit stores and I absolutely love it! Definitely pick it up if you can, it would make a great addition to any collection. Check out my full review here:

In other LEGO news, the final chapter of the epic showdown between me and Brettski concluded this week!

For those who don’t remember, 4 months ago Brettski made an epic bet: If I hits 100,000 subscribers by January 15th, I was to ship Brettski the Ewok Village. I’m just over 90k now…meaning Brettski had to part with the Ultimate Iron Man Art! I received it in the mail this week and got it put together and hung up in the LEGO room. Thanks for the memories Brettski!

Speaking of the LEGO room, there’s been a ton of huge changes to the city, with the Blacksmith set finding a home in the campground area, an all-new spooky graveyard MOC hitting the baseplates, and a total revamp of the city layout. Even more changes coming!

Over on Beyond Bricksie, we took a quick look at my Brickheadz and modular buildings, made a lot of progress on the new BooneBuilds castle MOC, and discussed tips to avoid burnout!

Stay tuned for next week, I have some big surprises in the pipeline!

Looking ahead to February!

Hey everyone!

January was absolutely wild for the channel, with lots to recap!

The month started off with the build and review of the latest modular building, the LEGO Police Station (10278). Loved this set and it makes a fantastic addition to the city.

Speaking of the city, it was completely overhauled with a new layout that really lets each neighborhood shine and leaves us with plenty of room to grow!

The rest of the LEGO room is really coming together as well, with the LEGO art finally getting hung and the BRICKSIE wall making major headway!

My second channel, Beyond Bricksie, got a big rebrand and is going strong too!

What’s coming up on the channel?

In a word, lots. In another word, oodles.

Tomorrow I’ll be heading down to the LEGO Store to pick up the new Medieval Blacksmith set (21325). Keep an eye on the channel for the shopping video as well as the building livestream and eventual review!

Same goes for the Creator Expert Porsche 911 (10295), which will be available to VIP customers on February 16. Psyched!

I’m also getting ready to build one of my biggest MOCs yet – the Castello Fortificato from BooneBuilds on Rebrickable. So, viewers who were concerned watching me smash the Colosseum set can breathe easy, the pieces are going to a good cause and I’m already working on a new Colosseum set.

We’ll also be continuing to work away on the BRICKSIE wall and getting organized to make a dent in my massive backlog of sets to build. Lots to do!

I’m gonna be down here forever.

Stay tuned this week for the Blacksmith build, a new Cemetery MOC that I’ve been keeping quiet about, and much more!

As always, thanks for tuning into the channel!

BRICKSIE’s Most Frequently Asked Questions!

Hey everybody! Hope January has treated you well. If you’ve been following along on the channel, you’ll know this month has been huge for me, with the LEGO room really coming together, the BRICKSIE wall getting placed, building and placing the new Ninjago Gardens and much, much more.

As the channel closes in on 100,000 subscribers (can you BELIEVE that?!), I wanted to take the time to answer some of the most common questions I get asked on the channel as well as social media. I have made a few videos over the past few years addressing them, but with all the new followers, it might be time for a refresher!

How do I keep the LEGO room clean?

This one comes up all the time. It really depends on how big your collection is, what your home is like, and how much dust you’re really comfortable with. I clean the room fairly regularly with a quick sort of sealed sets, tidy of stray bricks, and vacuum. My house is fairly new and the air is filtered well, so there’s not as much work involved in staying on top of it. LEGO fans in older buildings or dealing with a lot of pets hanging out in the same room as their collections may have more work to do, which is why some place their sets in shelving with glass doors.

When it comes to dusting the individual sets (which I don’t do nearly often enough), I take a quick Swiffer duster to it. Some will get much more intense, using toothbrushes or paintbrushes to go over the studs. It’s pretty unreal!

How do I afford it?

This is probably my absolute most commonly asked question. To be frank, its a mixture of hard work, time, patience, and a little luck!

I worked part time from the ages of 13-18 and full time from 19 onward. I wasn’t really into blowing my money as a kid, so while I was growing up I saved most of what I earned. Between living at home with little to no expenses and being blessed with some wise people to guide me in financial literacy, I built up a pretty great set of saving habits that stayed with me into adulthood when I began working full-time and earning the big money!

When I got into LEGO, I couldn’t imagine the groundswell of support I would receive one day on the channel, which has allowed me to make running the Bricksie community my full-time job. I’m a very lucky man, and very grateful for my fans!

What was your first set?

This one is easy. The 2014 AT-AT Walker (75054)!

I first snagged it on May 4th 2015 after catching a Facebook ad for Star Wars Day sales. I thought it looked pretty fun and took the chance on a new hobby, not realizing what a rabbit hole I had uncovered. Nowadays, I have walkers coming out the wazoo, and they’re still sick!

What about your FAVOURITE set?

This one is kind of a two-parter!

My absolute favourite set of all time was actually a gift. When I hit 50,000 subscribers, some of my longtime fans got together and surprised me with the UCS Imperial Shuttle (10212).

This set was on my wishlist for a long time, and between that and the fact that it represents a huge milestone for the channel as well as an incredibly thoughtful gift from the community, this will probably always be my #1.

When it comes to the LEGO City, my favourite modular has got to be the Creator Expert Detective’s Office (10246). It was my first modular building and it’s what got me into the possibilities of the LEGO City. The channel would look very different if I never pulled the trigger on this set.

Here’s a little more about my favourite sets, least favourites and more:

What’s the deal with fan mail?

Fans have been sending me LEGO and other goodies for a while now, and it’s a huge part of what makes the community really come together!

When it comes to LEGO, some of it will be built on the channel in live streams or reviewed in regular videos! Others will be folded into regular giveaways for channel members to keep everybody brickin’.

Other gifts have included coffee mugs, mouse pads, fan art and more! All fan mail gets opened up on my channel and makes its way to treasured positions around the LEGO room. It makes me feel much more connected to my channel members and helps to bridge gap between my basement and your screens at home. Ideally, I’d like to open a public space for Bricksie HQ someday, so fans can come hang out in person!

To send fan mail, address your shipment to:
